With the elevation today of the Honorable Kurt D. Engelhardt to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Honorable Nannette Jolivette Brown has begun her seven-year term as the Chief Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Judge Jolivette Brown is the first African American female district court judge appointed to a federal court in Louisiana and is the first African American judge to serve as Chief Judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Effective May 1, 2018, the Clerk will begin electronic filing and distribution of Statement of Reasons for sentencing in criminal cases. Attorneys of record who have been granted access will enter their CM/ECF Filer login and password to authenticate that the attorney is an authorized party in order to view the document, the same as the procedure used for electronic disclosure of the Presentence Investigation Report. The Statement of Reasons filed in a sealed case will be distributed manually.
