April 8, 2015
On April 8, 1812, an act of Congress organized the State of Louisiana as a judicial district and authorized one judgeship for the U.S. district court. It provided that the judge of the court would have the same jurisdiction and powers that had been granted to the judge of the Orleans district court. The district court in Louisiana, not being assigned to a judicial circuit, was granted the same jurisdiction as U.S. circuit courts, except in appeals and writs of error, which were the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

  Public Notice is hereby given of proposed amendment to the Local Criminal Rules of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The court proposes to abrogate LCrR 23.1 in its entirety since current statutory and case law address this issue. Full Page View

The United States Sentencing Commission having promulgated an amendment, effective November 1, 2014, to §1B1.10 of the United States Sentencing Guidelines ("USSG"), giving retroactive application to Amendment 782, the Court has determined that the following procedures should be implemented in order to ensure the effective and timely administration of justice: General Order re: Retroactive Sentencing Guidelines, Amendment 782 Also available: proposed order form LAED 0247: Order Regarding Motion for Sentence Reduction Pursuant to 18 USC § 3582(C)(2)
